First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at whether storybooks or hand puppets can reduce fear in children aged 4 to 7 before outpatient surgery. 99 children were split into three groups: standard care, reading a storybook, or playing with a puppet. Researchers measured fear and emotional distress before and after the activities to see which method worked best.
