New surgery may prevent slipped discs from coming back

NCT ID NCT07250581

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study compares two types of back surgery for people with a slipped disc (lumbar disc herniation). One group gets standard surgery to remove the herniated disc material, while the other group gets that plus a repair of the disc wall. The goal is to see if repairing the disc reduces the chance of the disc herniating again. The study involves 300 participants aged 12 to 65 who have not improved with non-surgical treatments.
