Can a phone app cut PICC complications? new study aims to find out.
NCT ID NCT06905119
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a smartphone app called SpadCare can help patients who have a PICC line (a thin tube for giving medicine or nutrition) take better care of it at home. About 201 adults will either use the app or get standard care. The goal is to see if app users have fewer problems like infections or blockages, and feel more involved in their own care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Smartphone application (SpadCare)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a simple app helps patients avoid infections and other PICC-related problems, making home care safer.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage, non-randomized study with only 201 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and the app's benefit over standard care is not yet proven.
