New ICU study aims to ditch risky catheters for kidney patients

NCT ID NCT07447128

Summary

This study is testing if it's safe and practical to use a patient's existing, permanent dialysis access for continuous kidney filtering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Currently, most ICU patients get a temporary catheter, which carries risks of infection and blood vessel damage. The research will enroll 50 critically ill patients to see if using their established access works well and is safer.
