Ancient Herb's modern derivative targets silent liver epidemic

NCT ID NCT07199933

Summary

This study is testing whether a drug called diacerein can help treat metabolic fatty liver disease (MAFLD), a common condition where fat builds up in the liver. Researchers will give either diacerein or a placebo (inactive pill) to 74 adults with MAFLD to see if the drug reduces liver fat and improves related health measures. The drug is derived from a component of rhubarb, a traditional Chinese medicine long used for liver disorders.
