New hope for stubborn blood sugar? major trial tests third diabetes pill

NCT ID NCT06571591

Summary

This study is testing if adding a medication called pioglitazone helps adults with type 2 diabetes who still have high blood sugar despite taking two common drugs (metformin and empagliflozin). Researchers will compare pioglitazone to a placebo (dummy pill) in about 580 people to see if it better controls blood sugar levels and is safe. The goal is to see if this three-drug combination offers better long-term disease management.
