Surgery drug may stop Post-Op bathroom struggles

NCT ID NCT07077850

Summary

This study is testing whether giving a common anti-nausea medication called dexamethasone before surgery can prevent urinary retention—a condition where patients can't urinate after surgery. About 1,000 adults having surgery with spinal anesthesia will receive either the medication or a placebo injection before their procedure. Researchers will then monitor who develops urinary problems and needs a catheter after surgery.
