New pill could stop and treat dangerous swelling attacks
NCT ID NCT07266805
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tests an oral drug called deucrictibant in adults with acquired angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency, a rare condition causing sudden, painful swelling attacks. The study has three parts: one to see if a daily extended-release tablet can prevent attacks, another to test an immediate-release capsule for on-demand treatment, and an open-label part for long-term safety. About 32 participants will be enrolled to compare the drug against placebo.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Deucrictibant
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new oral option to prevent and treat swelling attacks in people with acquired angioedema, reducing the need for emergency care.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 3 trial with only 32 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are still being studied.
