Could a contraceptive shot ease sickle cell pain?

Summary
This study looks at whether an injectable birth control called Depo-Provera can reduce painful episodes in women with sickle cell disease. About 65 adult women who regularly have sickle cell pain will take part. They will first go 3 months without hormonal birth control, then get a Depo-Provera shot and be followed for another 3 months. The goal is to see if the shot lowers how often pain episodes happen.
