Can a tweaked dental implant keep jawbone healthier longer?
NCT ID NCT00723944
First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a dental implant with a special lateralized design (Osseotite Certain Prevail) preserves more bone around the implant than a standard version. About 100 adults who need a short fixed bridge to replace missing teeth will receive one of the two implant types. The main question is whether the new design reduces bone loss over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a dental implant with a lateralized design (Osseotite Certain Prevail) compared to a standard non-lateralized implant (Osseotite Certain)
- What this could lead to
- If the lateralized design preserves more bone, it could lead to longer-lasting dental implants with fewer complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial comparing two similar devices, so differences may be small or not clinically meaningful. Bone loss around implants depends on many factors beyond design.
