Iron-Blocking drug could be key to saving lives after devastating brain bleeds

NCT ID NCT04566991

Summary

This study is testing whether a drug called deferoxamine can help people recover better after a life-threatening brain bleed caused by a ruptured aneurysm. The drug works by binding to harmful iron released during the bleed, which is thought to cause further brain damage. Researchers will compare two different doses of the drug against a placebo in 120 patients to see if it improves their physical and mental function six months later.
