New hope for youngest CF patients: drug study in toddlers shows promise

NCT ID NCT05882357

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested a triple-combination drug (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor) in 70 toddlers with cystic fibrosis who are 12 to 24 months old. The goal was to see how the drug moves through the body, whether it is safe, and if it helps reduce sweat chloride levels, a key measure of CF disease activity. All children had at least one specific genetic mutation (F508del) that makes the drug effective.
