New surgical trick may make gallbladder removal safer
NCT ID NCT07339501
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether preserving the cystic artery during laparoscopic gallbladder removal can reduce complications like bleeding. Two hundred patients with symptomatic gallstones will be split into two groups: one where the artery is preserved and one where it is clipped or burned. The main goal is to see if preserving the artery leads to fewer post-surgery problems.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this technique could make gallbladder surgery safer by reducing post-operative bleeding and complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial without a randomized control group, so results may not be widely applicable. The benefit of preserving the artery over standard methods is not yet proven.
