New cell therapy trial aims to tame dangerous transplant complication

Summary

This study is testing whether adding an investigational cell therapy called CYP-001 to standard steroid treatment works better than steroids alone for patients with high-risk acute graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). GvHD is a serious and potentially life-threatening complication that can occur after a stem cell transplant. About 60 patients who have had a transplant and developed this severe form of GvHD will be randomly assigned to receive either CYP-001 infusions or a placebo, in addition to their steroid treatment, to see which group responds better.
