Hidden clots found in all deceased patients with central lines – new study aims to detect them earlier

NCT ID NCT06417541

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks for blood clots caused by central venous catheters (thin tubes placed in large veins) that are not causing symptoms. Researchers will examine 75 people: some who have died and are having an autopsy, and some living patients who need a CT scan. They will use a special CT scanner and compare results with autopsies or ultrasound to see how well the CT can find these hidden clots.
