Custom hip spacer fights infection while keeping patients mobile

NCT ID NCT07453329

Summary

This study tested whether a custom-made temporary hip implant could effectively control infection while maintaining reasonable function during a two-stage replacement procedure for infected hip joints. Researchers followed 25 patients who received this custom spacer after removal of their infected hip replacement, then underwent antibiotic treatment before receiving a permanent new hip. The study measured how well the spacer controlled infection, preserved hip function, and affected surgery outcomes.
