Turmeric compound may light up Alzheimer's signs in the retina

NCT ID NCT05774704

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether taking curcumin supplements for two weeks can cross into the brain and attach to amyloid-beta proteins, which are linked to Alzheimer's disease. Researchers will use special eye imaging to see if these proteins become visible in the retina. The study also checks how much curcumin gets into the blood and how it affects gut bacteria. About 60 adults aged 40-89 with retinal amyloid deposits will participate.
