New monitoring method may ease sore throat after surgery

NCT ID NCT07485972

First seen Apr 13, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested whether continuously monitoring the pressure in the breathing tube's cuff during laparoscopic surgery could reduce throat pain and other airway problems afterward. 95 adults having abdominal surgery were randomly assigned to one of three cuff pressure monitoring methods. The goal was to see if continuous monitoring leads to fewer complications like sore throat, cough, or hoarseness compared to checking pressure every 30 minutes or using a standard leak test.
