Simple tube pressure check could spare breast surgery patients a sore throat

NCT ID NCT07341646

First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests three methods of monitoring the pressure in the breathing tube's cuff during breast surgery. Too much pressure can cause sore throat, hoarseness, and trouble swallowing after the operation. About 90 women having elective breast surgery will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: continuous pressure monitoring, a one-time manual check, or inflating the cuff just enough to prevent air leaks. Researchers will track how many patients have throat pain, cough, or voice changes in the first 24 hours after surgery to find the safest approach.
