New scan could catch more postpartum blood clots

NCT ID NCT02616991

Summary

This study tested if adding a special CT scan of the pelvis and legs to the standard lung scan helps doctors find more blood clots in women who have recently given birth and are suspected of having a dangerous lung clot (pulmonary embolism). Researchers enrolled 125 new mothers to see if this combined scanning approach detects more clots than the standard lung scan alone. The goal was to improve diagnosis of a leading cause of death after childbirth.
