New drug trial aims to shorten agonizing sickle cell crises

Summary

This study is testing whether an intravenous medication called CSL889 can help shorten painful vaso-occlusive crises in people with sickle cell disease. Researchers will give the drug or a placebo to 70 adults and adolescents who come to the hospital with these sudden, severe pain episodes. The main goals are to see if CSL889 is safe and if it helps resolve the painful crisis faster.
