Spinal fluid clues may predict shunt success in brain water condition

NCT ID NCT05915000

First seen Mar 29, 2026 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether certain proteins in spinal fluid can help doctors predict which adults with chronic hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain) will improve after a shunt surgery that drains the fluid. About 150 participants will have their spinal fluid tested before surgery and then be followed to see how well they recover. The goal is to avoid unnecessary surgeries in people who are unlikely to benefit.
