New hope for treating a dangerous gut bug in vulnerable children

NCT ID NCT06600711

Summary

This study is testing whether a medicine called nitazoxanide can treat Cryptosporidium, a parasite that causes severe diarrhea, in malnourished babies in Bangladesh. Researchers will give the medicine or a placebo to 480 children aged 6-12 months for 3 days to see if it shortens diarrhea and clears the parasite from their bodies. The main goal is to see if this treatment helps control the infection and improves the children's health over six months.
