Chill out tooth pain: cold therapy may replace extra needles

NCT ID NCT07517367

First seen Apr 22, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether applying cold inside the mouth (intraoral cryotherapy) can improve numbing for root canal treatment on lower front teeth with severe tooth nerve pain (irreversible pulpitis). About 98 adults with intense tooth pain will receive standard numbing injections, with or without additional cold therapy. The goal is to see if cold therapy reduces pain during the procedure and lessens the need for extra numbing shots.
