Heart rhythm showdown: freezing vs burning for AFib
NCT ID NCT01490814
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study compared two ways to treat a common heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation (AFib). One method uses a freezing balloon (cryoballoon) and the other uses heat (radiofrequency) to fix the heart's electrical signals. About 769 adults with AFib took part. The goal was to see which method works better and is safer at controlling symptoms without needing more drugs or repeat procedures.
