NCT ID NCT03716934

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested two treatments for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat that lasts for weeks). One treatment uses a special balloon to freeze small areas in the heart (cryoablation), and the other uses standard heart rhythm medications. The study included 196 adults with this condition and tracked how long they stayed free of heart rhythm problems and whether serious complications occurred. The goal was to see which approach works better and is safer.
