Freezing pain away: new technique may transform lung surgery recovery
NCT ID NCT06861387
First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study tests a technique called intercostal cryo-analgesia (ICCA), which uses cold to temporarily freeze nerves in the chest wall during minimally invasive lung surgery. The goal is to see if adding ICCA to standard pain management helps patients recover faster, use fewer opioids, and leave the hospital sooner. The trial will enroll 150 adults scheduled for lung surgery and compare recovery quality between those who receive ICCA plus standard care and those who receive standard care alone.
