New hope for sickle cell patients: drug aims to slash painful attacks

Summary
This study tests a drug called crizanlizumab to see if it can reduce the number of painful crises (called vaso-occlusive crises) in people with sickle cell disease. About 315 teens and adults who have frequent crises will receive either the drug or a placebo, and some may also take hydroxyurea. The goal is to help patients have fewer hospital visits and better manage their condition.
