Creatine supplement side effects under the microscope

NCT ID NCT07176325

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested how often and how badly creatine supplements cause stomach problems and fluid retention in healthy adults. Twenty-four people took creatine either with a standard loading dose or without. The goal was to see which dosing method causes fewer side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

creatine monohydrate

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help people taking creatine supplements avoid stomach discomfort and bloating by choosing a better dosing method.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 24 people, so results may not apply to everyone. It only looked at side effects, not whether creatine works for building muscle or other benefits.
