New combo therapy could slash deaths in severe breathing failure

Summary
This study tests whether adding continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy reduces deaths in patients with severe, sudden breathing failure. About 1,084 adults in intensive care will be randomly assigned to receive either HFNC alone or HFNC plus CPAP. The main goal is to see if the combination lowers the risk of death within 90 days.
