New vaccine aims to better protect transplant patients against COVID-19

NCT ID NCT07390968

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests a new type of COVID-19 vaccine (LUNAR-COV19) in 56 adults who have had a stem cell transplant within the past year. Standard vaccines often don't work as well in these patients because their immune system is weakened. The new vaccine uses a self-amplifying mRNA that may create a stronger and longer-lasting immune response. Researchers will compare it to the standard Pfizer vaccine to see which is safer and more effective.
