Lockdowns may have cost diabetics their limbs
NCT ID NCT04891276
First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the COVID-19 lockdowns in France caused delays in treating diabetic foot ulcers, leading to more amputations. Researchers analyzed over 3 million hospital stays of diabetic patients from 2017 to 2020. They compared amputation rates before, during, and after the lockdown to see if fear of infection and reduced access to care made things worse.
