Routine Follow-Up after joint replacement may be unnecessary, study suggests

Summary
This study looks at whether the routine one-year follow-up visit with an X-ray after total hip or knee replacement is truly needed. Currently, guidelines recommend a check-up at one year, but these visits take time and money for patients and the healthcare system. The study will compare patients who have a check-up only when needed (on demand) versus those who follow the standard schedule, to see if skipping the routine visit affects physical function or leads to more complications. About 1,000 adults aged 50 and older having their first hip or knee replacement for osteoarthritis will take part.
