Copper-coated catheter aims to slash hospital infections
NCT ID NCT07530328
First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tested a new type of urinary catheter coated with copper nanoparticles to see if it could reduce infections in hospitalized adults. 256 patients who needed a long-term catheter were randomly assigned to get either the new copper catheter or a standard one. The goal was to measure how many developed a urinary tract infection while using the catheter. The approach uses a special coating that fights bacteria and prevents biofilm buildup, potentially making catheters safer for long-term use.
