A simple pause in breathing could help critically ill COPD patients

NCT ID NCT07207967

Summary

This study tested a specific breathing pattern during mechanical ventilation for sedated, hospitalized COPD patients. Researchers wanted to see if adding a brief pause at the end of each breath could help the lungs clear carbon dioxide more efficiently without causing harmful overinflation. They compared this 'pause' method to standard ventilation in 14 patients to find a safer way to manage their breathing.
