Zap and move: new hospital therapy aims to help COPD patients breathe easier
NCT ID NCT05480566
Summary
This study tested if adding special leg exercises and gentle electrical muscle stimulation to standard hospital care could help people with COPD recover faster after a severe breathing flare-up. Researchers wanted to see if this extra therapy could improve patients' leg strength, reduce feelings of breathlessness and tiredness during daily activities, and lower the chance of being readmitted to the hospital. The trial involved 35 hospitalized patients and compared the new exercise program to standard care alone.
