Feeding vs. fasting: ICU tube removal study challenges old habits
NCT ID NCT06382727
First seen May 08, 2026 ยท Last updated May 08, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 60 critically ill ICU patients on breathing machines. It compared the usual practice of stopping liquid nutrition (feeding tube) for at least 4 hours before removing the breathing tube against not stopping it at all. The goal was to see if skipping the fast reduces the total hours patients go without food before the tube is removed. The study is a pilot, meaning it tests if a larger trial is possible.
