One-Shade wonders? study tests if universal composites can replace traditional fillings
NCT ID NCT06563128
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares four new single-shade universal resin composites to a conventional composite for filling class 2 cavities (between teeth). 45 adults will receive 180 fillings, which will be evaluated at 6 and 12 months by blinded dentists using standard criteria. The goal is to see if these simpler, color-matching materials perform as well as traditional options.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dental composite resin
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could show that single-shade universal composites work as well as traditional ones, simplifying tooth filling procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, short-term study (45 people, 12 months) comparing materials, not testing a new treatment. Results may not apply to all cavity types or longer timeframes.
