Dental showdown: which onlay material lasts longer?
NCT ID NCT06820840
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two materials used to repair large cavities in back teeth: a hybrid resin composite and a hybrid ceramic onlay. Sixty-four adults with decayed molars will receive one of the two onlays and be followed for 18 months. Researchers will check how well each restoration holds up and how much wear occurs over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dental onlay (hybrid resin composite or hybrid ceramic)
What this could lead to
If one material proves clearly better, dentists may have a stronger recommendation for long-lasting tooth restorations.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 64 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both materials are already in use, so no breakthrough is expected.
