Timing of tooth extraction may speed up braces treatment

NCT ID NCT07445321

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at 34 people getting braces who needed all four first premolars removed. It compared how fast and how much the gaps closed when teeth were pulled just before braces (fresh sites) versus waiting for the gums to heal first (healed sites). The goal is to help orthodontists decide the best time for extractions to make treatment more efficient.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help orthodontists decide the best time to extract teeth to shorten treatment duration.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 34 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It does not test a new treatment, just compares timing.
