New study aims to find safer sedation for seniors during ERCP

NCT ID NCT07017283

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at 170 adults aged 60 and older who need a procedure called ERCP to treat bile duct or pancreas issues. It compares two ways of keeping patients comfortable during the procedure: deep sedation (where you are very sleepy but still breathing on your own) versus general anesthesia (where a breathing tube is used). The goal is to see which method causes fewer breathing problems during and right after the procedure.
