Study aims to find best way to classify birth tears for better recovery

NCT ID NCT07124676

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026

Summary

This study looks at two different ways to classify second-degree perineal tears that happen during spontaneous vaginal birth. Researchers want to see which system better predicts problems after birth, such as pain, blood loss, hidden muscle injury, and sexual function. About 482 women will have their tears classified using both systems and then be followed up with standard checks and questionnaires. The goal is to improve how doctors assess and manage these common birth injuries.
