New MRI dye tested against standard for kidney scans
NCT ID NCT07040865
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a newer MRI contrast agent, gadopiclenol, with the standard agent, gadobutrol, for imaging the kidneys and adrenal glands. About 104 adults with incidental findings on scans will receive one of the two agents during a single MRI session. The goal is to see if the newer agent provides equally clear images, which could give doctors another option for these types of scans.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- gadopiclenol (Vueway) and gadobutrol (Gadovist) contrast agents
- What this could lead to
- If gadopiclenol works as well as the standard contrast agent, it could offer a safe and effective alternative for MRI scans of the kidneys and adrenal glands.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (104 people) comparing two similar agents. It may not show a clear difference, and results may not apply to all patients or imaging types.
