Slow drip, big impact: new drug combo may save heart valve patients from surgery

NCT ID NCT07360717

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two different clot-dissolving medicines in 100 adults whose mechanical heart valves became blocked by blood clots. One group received a very slow, low-dose infusion of alteplase over 24 hours (up to 72 hours), while the other received a slow infusion of streptokinase over 24 hours (up to 48 hours). The goal was to see which drug works better and has fewer side effects, offering a non-surgical option to restore valve function.
