New study tests if a simpler abortion pill regimen works just as well

NCT ID NCT07174856

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 26, 2026 · Updated 32 times

Summary

This study compares a newer, simpler abortion pill regimen (misoprostol alone) to the standard two-pill regimen (mifepristone plus misoprostol) for ending early pregnancy up to 77 days. About 1,900 people will be randomly assigned to one of the two regimens and report their outcomes through daily and weekly surveys. The goal is to see if the misoprostol-only approach is nearly as effective as the standard regimen.
