Eye-Tracking device could end the 'Nightmare' of silence for ventilated ICU patients

NCT ID NCT07251530

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests a new high-tech device that uses eye-tracking to help patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) who are on breathing machines communicate. Many of these patients are awake but cannot speak due to tubes, leading to frustration and anxiety. The device lets them select icons on a screen using their eyes, making it easier to express needs and feelings. The study will enroll 60 patients to see if the device is practical and easy to use in a busy ICU setting.
