Could a simple sugar test predict surgery complications?
NCT ID NCT07189663
Summary
This study aims to understand if measuring a type of sugar (sialic acid) in the blood and stool of colorectal cancer patients can help predict details about their tumor and their risk of a serious healing problem called an anastomotic leak after surgery. Researchers will look back at past patient records and also collect new stool samples from about 1,500 patients to see how this sugar and gut bacteria are linked to surgical outcomes. The goal is to gather knowledge that could lead to better ways to prevent this complication in the future.
