Could a drug make colon cancer surgery unnecessary?

NCT ID NCT07409844

Summary

This study is testing whether giving an immunotherapy drug (pembrolizumab) before surgery can shrink tumors enough to allow some patients with a specific type of early-stage colon cancer to avoid major surgery. The goal is to see if patients whose cancer disappears after the drug treatment can be safely monitored with regular check-ups instead of having surgery. The study will also compare quality of life between patients who avoid surgery and those who need it.
