New surgical thread aims to seal the deal on dangerous colon surgery leaks

NCT ID NCT07132970

Summary

This study is testing a specific type of surgical thread (MonoPlus®) to see if it is as good as or better than current methods at preventing leaks where the intestine is reconnected after colon cancer surgery. It will involve 249 adults having planned surgery for right-sided colon cancer. The main goal is to see if the leak rate in the first 30 days after surgery is not worse than rates seen with traditional stitching or stapling techniques.
