Gum graft showdown: which collagen seal saves more bone?

NCT ID NCT06029322

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests two different collagen materials used to seal the socket after a tooth is pulled, to see which one better preserves the gum and bone for future dental implants. Eighteen adults needing two tooth extractions will each receive both materials at different sites, and the results will be compared using scans and healing scores. The goal is to find out which seal leads to thicker gum tissue and better bone preservation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

collagen matrix or collagen membrane

What this could lead to

If one material works better, dentists may have a clearer choice for preserving gum and bone after tooth removal, improving future implant success.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study with only 18 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares materials, not a new treatment, so no major breakthrough is expected.
